Club nights

There’s no such things a typical club night at Scotstoun. As a club we work hard to cope with all ages and badminton ability. We are a grassroots club we want to help everyone to improve their badminton. The pictures may make it look like a very busy evening but there is always time to talk to friends, make new ones and ask our coaches advice

This is a story of what happens on a normal club night.

After some warm-up badminton, catching up with friends and paying sub’s we start with a short warm-up, a few laps and some stretches. The warm-ups are often led by the players themselves.

Then we split into groups to do some coaching. The group you are in will vary each week depending on attendance and coach availability. Coaching tends to follow the pattern used in the Glasgow performance set-up, a different stroke every month or so.
Younger players work on badminton-based fun games.

We then play some matches against the other players in your group. These are usually half-court, short games to give our players a chance to practice.  Irrespective of age, size and ability there will always be someone better and worse than you at the club. We are pleased to have a number of players in the Badminton Scotland performance set-up and at Glasgow School of Sport. Better players can expect to play against the coaches, but so far no one has beaten them.

At the end we sometimes play team games to help fitness but we always end by getting together for news of up and coming events and any good results our players (and often coaches) have had in competitions.
